I am so thrilled to announce the opening of Zone 10, our new Personal Training Studio, at Geelong’s Gym.

This project has been underway for the last couple of months and is something all the Personal Trainers have been anticipating with great excitement.  So last week we were delighted to rip down the concealing paper and open Zone 10 for Personal Training.

You might be wondering what’s so special about it, so I’m going to give you a little insight…

Zone 10 is all about functional trainingAdam Ryan, Manager of Geelong’s Gym, has spent a lot of time over the past few months sourcing specialised equipment designed to maximise functional training, so that anyone who trains in the studio will:

  • Build their core
  • Burn massive calories
  • Work every muscle and joint
  • Move powerfully
  • Develop strength and coordination
  • Increase flexibility

And because functional training is so effective, you can do short hit outs and get fast results!

There’s a whole lot of different stuff you can do in Zone 10 and our trainers have been having heaps of fun trying out the new equipment.  I thought I’d give you a bit of a peep at what’s been happening with a few photos I took the other day.

If you’re bored with your current routine and need something different, or maybe you’d like to set yourself a new goal or challenge… perhaps you should think about booking in with a trainer and trying out some functional training in Zone 10.

Trust me, it will be the workout of a lifetime where you’ll get more out of your body than ever before, plus you’ll have heaps of fun while you’re at it!

Oh, and, while we’re talking about new things, don’t forget to check out the new equipment in the gym and cardio theatre.

Wow, what a Lactic Session!

I changed classes and time today.  I simply decided to go to the gym for a workout at a totally different time and participated in a different Instructor’s Spinning class. The Instructor, Karen Henry, was fabulous, but her class had predominantly hill climbing and some sprint sessions – quite different to the other sessions I attend regularly.  Wow, what a lactic session it was.

A shaky start

Lactic acid has a bad reputation. Many people blame it for fatigue, sore muscles, and cramps. They think of it as a waste product that should be avoided at all cost. Guess what? Scientists have discovered that lactic acid plays a critical role in generating energy during exercise. Far from being the bad boy of metabolism, lactic acid provides fuels for many tissues, helps use dietary carbohydrates, and serves as fuel for liver production of glucose and glycogen. In fact, lactic acid is nature’s way of helping you survive stressful situations.

But what is Lactic Acid?

Technically, lactic acid is a chemical compound produced from pyruvate, an organic acid in animals. Pyruvate becomes lactic acid during normal metabolism, but also through exercise. (Lactic acid also can be found in some sour milk products, such as yogurt, kefir, and some types of cottage cheese.)

When you exercise, your body burns sugar, fat or protein along with oxygen. This produces the energy needed to continue exercising. When you exercise so intensely your muscles can’t get enough oxygen, Continue reading ‘Wow, what a Lactic Session!’
