New AMT (Adoptive Motion Trainer) Precor Machines Arrive!

We are delighted to announce the arrival of TWO AMT Precor Machines into the Cardio Theatre at Geelong’s Gym.

Most of you are probably asking right now, what’s an AMT machine?

Put simply, it’s a machine that is as versatile as the human body. It will move the way you want to move. Sounds pretty cool, huh?!

It’s a low-impact cardio trainer that actually adapts to your movements. Which means you can completely change the motion and path of your steps without even having to touch a button. So you can go from short to long strides, walking to running and even into deep lunges without pressing a single button! Every workout you have can be as challenging and unique as you want it to be.

So you will never get bored!

Do you want to know more about how the muscles in your body respond to different movements?

Now is your chance. You’ll learn how to use short strides to work the calves and quads, mid-length strides to hit the hamstrings and glutes, and long strides for full engagement. Can anybody see a taut, toned and amazing looking lower body evolving right before your eyes?

The more you learn the more you’ll be able to customize your workouts to target specific muscle groups. Not only will your workouts be so much more interesting, but they will also be that much more rewarding.

I don’t know about you, but the AMT actually makes exercise sound like fun!

So why not come in and have a try of this fantastic new cardio machine. The AMT is ready and waiting for you to let your

Bold New Sign Makes Its Debut

That’s right, folks.  There are new things going down in the Health and Fitness world, or more specifically in Geelong.

Re-Creation Health Club Geelong has made its exodus and Geelong’s Gym has officially taken its place as the original Geelong gym, serving the Geelong community for 45 years.  That’s why we decided to change its name, because how could we call it anything other than Geelong’s Gym?!

We’re really excited about the change.  Check out this great video taken of the final stages of the sign going up.

But, the sign going up is only the first of many changes to this fabulous health and fitness Mecca.  There are heaps more exciting things to come – new state of the art equipment, new flat screen TVs, new change rooms and some additional surprises.

Some of the Geelong's Gym team celebrate the new sign going up.

Cake Flops – Disaster!

Ever put off doing something because you’re no good at it?

Most of us want to know we will at least be average or reasonable at an activity before we start …you know…like singing in public or displaying some art work or maybe even having people over for tea and having to cook for them.  Imagine spending all afternoon preparing food only to have it flop when it comes out of the oven.  Arghh!

Fortunately, exercise is not like that.

You can be terrible at it and still get the enormous benefits.  You can look like a baby giraffe learning to walk and still get the enormous benefits.  You can have the wrong clothes, the wrong haircut but however you look, however you perform – the benefits of exercise and strength training are yours from the moment you start.

Why would you put off doing exercise?

Geelong’s Gym has a wide range of classes for all body types, ages, and genders. And you can check out our free trial by clicking here.

Have you ever had the “what ifs”?

Have you ever had the “What If’s?”

You know…what if this happened?  What if that happened?

Have the “What If’s” ever stopped you from doing or starting something?

For the participants in the STRONG study, this was their biggest hurdle to getting started.

What if I’m the only one who can’t do the exercise?
What if my heart rate goes too high?
What if I hurt myself?
What if I’m the fattest person in the group?

All participants know that the study is backed by research and fact.
All participants know the trainers have been specifically trained to work with those with, or at risk of, Type II Diabetes.

Tackling the “What If’s” can be tricky but as one participant shared with me…
Imagine if we replaced the words “WHAT IF” with “IF” and “THEN”!

So instead of saying “WHAT IF this happens”, change it to “IF this happens, THEN I’ll deal with it”.

A great lesson in attitude for all of us.

Getting to the gym is 90% of the effort!

On my way to the gym early this morning, as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I realised that the biggest part of your workout is actually getting to the gym.  How many excuses do we generate in an attempt to avoid expending any effort at the gym?  I can think of at least ten off the top of my head.

But, once we actually step over the threshold of the gym we’re already 90% of the way there.  Because we all know that once we’re there we can’t help but work out. So how about looking at it this way?  Don’t focus on the energy you’re going to have to put into your workout when you get to the gym, after all it’s really only going to take 10% effort to have a great workout.  Just get in your car or jump on your bike and by the time you step through the doors at the gym you’re already 90% of the way through your workout!  Now that’s great logic!
