Walking Home To Raise Awareness Of Homelessness

One of the foundations of my life is to help people in any way I can as best I can, which is why I’m involved in the health and fitness industry.  I’ve owned my business for many years now and I have always firmly believed it is the responsibility of all businesses to contribute to community events and put back into their local community as much as possible.  One of the community events my business is heavily involved with is Walking Home

Walking Home is an event to raise awareness of homelessness in our region and is a 37km walk from Queenscliff to Geelong, which is taking place this Saturday, 12th November.  Not only is Geelong’s Gym a sponsor, but we’re also going to be at the event giving out free leg massages and bottles of water and Gatorade… and of course, encouraging the several hundred (possibly thousand) walkers involved in the event.

But it doesn’t stop there… 10 of my Geelong’s Gym Team are also doing the walk and personally getting involved in this worthy event.

So, I’d like to put it to anyone reading this who is in the Geelong region… get out there on the day and support the walkers.  A friendly face welcoming them into the various pit stops can make all the difference in the world when they’re tired.  Or better yet, join the walk yourself – it’s not too late to register and there are a number of different entry points, so you don’t need to feel daunted by taking on the whole walk.

And if you can’t make it on the day, why not make a donation or buy a T-Shirt from Reception.

Geelong’s Gym Members Give Homeless A Merry Christmas

Have you ever really thought about what it would be like to be homeless at Christmas time?

Homeless people don’t have a Christmas Tree, they don’t wake up to gifts on Christmas morning and they can’t cook a hot Christmas lunch… not to mention, they don’t have a home overflowing with family, friends and Christmas cheer.

That’s why what the Salvation Army does is so important… they not only provide a wonderful Christmas dinner for those in need, but they also provide a place for families to share time together.

This year, many homeless people in Geelong also received a small Christmas gift, which was donated by the generous members at Geelong’s Gym.  In the video below Lisa Dalla-Zuanna from the Salvation Army shares how these gifts will help people very much in need of them.

So we’d just like to say we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a huge thank you to the Salvation Army and all our fantastic members at Geelong’s Gym.

My name is Ann Cramp and I’m a Personal Trainer at Geelong’s Gym.  I have the absolutely awesome pleasure of being the trainer for the Salvation Army’s Walking Home Event on 13th November - an event to create awareness of homelessness in our region.

This is a really important cause and I want YOU to step up…
                                                                                                                            Step Up…
                           STEP UP!!!!
We’re only 10 weeks away from the event but there’s still plenty of time to get into the gym and start training or you can get outside and enjoy the spring weather.
You can register on the Walking Home site and then head on over to the Geelong’s Gym Walking Home page to collect your training program, which will be a huge help over the forthcoming weeks.  If you’re doing the full walk from Queenscliff to Geelong, you need to start training NOW!
So, we’ve provided the training program, the Salvation Army has provided the event… now all you have to do is get your legs moving and make the Walking Home event your next goal.
You have 10 weeks to be ready, which is a fantastic goal to work towards, so why not take up the challenge and start walking for your own health, fitness and wellbeing, as well as helping create a greater awareness in our community of homelessness – what greater motivator do you need?!
Truly this is a Win, Win, Win!

Geelong’s Gym Supports “Walking Home” Event

Did you know that on any given night 100, 000 Australians are homeless?

Do you know how lucky you are to have a warm house to go home to over the winter period?

I am proud to announce that Geelong’s Gym is one of the sponsors of the Walking Home Event, a walk from Warrnambool to Geelong to raise awareness and understanding of homelessness issues in our region.

This is such an exciting initiative and we are thrilled to be involved.  The event will be taking place in November over a five day period and there’s lots to be done in the meantime.

Like what, you might ask.  It’s just walking, right?

Well, yes.  Except the participants are going to be clocking up a total of 189 kilometres over the five days!  I’m sure you’ll agree that’s quite a distance and requires a whole lot of physical and mental preparation.  And that’s where we come in, naturally.

Ann Cramp, one of the trainers at Geelong’s Gym, has already started training the participants with a tailor-made program that will elevate their walking fitness and stamina levels while ensuring that injuries are prevented.  They even have their own special Spin class once a fortnight, to add some variety to their training regime and the Spin Instructors who take those classes are contributing their time in support of the event.

You might wonder why I’m telling you about this.  I believe it’s important to support the community events and initiatives in our area, particularly when they’re for such a good cause.  Geelong’s Gym has been involved in the Geelong community for 45 years and we’re proud to be such a significant contributor.

So, when you see some of the participants training in the gym, why not take a couple of seconds to encourage them as they work towards the Walking Home Event.  I’m sure your support will be greatly appreciated.
