Today’s post is a tongue-in-cheek view of men and women looking into a mirror…

How Men Look In The Mirror

How Women Look In The Mirror
Friendly, Fun, Fitness
We’ve all heard the horror stories of Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI)… But guess what? You have LESS chance of developing RSI BECAUSE you go to the gym on a regular basis. By ‘cross-training’ your other muscles, you keep changing your body’s ‘benchmark’ position and therefore reduce the chances of RSI occurring. Isn’t that comforting to know?
You’re welcome.
Want to reduce your chance of getting RSI even more?
Check with one of our certified Personal Trainers who can show you specific wrist, forearm, bicep and tricep exercises to counter-act the effects of RSI. The best cure is PREVENTING it rather than trying to get rid of it after-the-fact. Just ask anyone who has been victimised by its debilitating discomfort.
Think RSI is just computer users hacking away at their keyboard? Think again.
A report in the Journal Of Occupational Health and Safety in 2002 showed that 96.5% of a sample of Melbourne hairdressers reported a musculoskeletal disorder. Even public servants aren’t spared, 80% reported at least one symptom in a 2004 survey and even anaesthetists surveyed in 2006 complained of RSI.
With long hours and technology simplifying movements for efficiency’s sake, the incidence of RSI is increasing.
Justin Bennett, an RSI sufferer who was forced into unemployment because of it has a website to explain how he beat RSI called www.HowIBeatRSI.com. If you have any discomfort that you think might be due to RSI, give his site a look and let us know if it helped you by posting a comment here on this blog.
If you haven’t been in the gym lately, you haven’t seen our new sign… We took the new up on the scaffolding to ‘unveil’ the new sign as part of our corporate facelift and rebranding makeover. I thought you’d like to see the fun we had!

The Team Has Fun Announcing Geelong's Gym's New Sign!
As a member of Geelong’s Gym, you know that consistency is the key to getting results. Dr Marc Dussault’s concept of the 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine is simple and straight-forward to understand and apply when you KNOW what to do. 1 Percent Improvement is NOT about doing something, but IMPROVING it 1 percent at a time. For example, if you are at work and you’re sitting down for 5 or 6 hours at your desk, a 1 Percent Improvement could be to…
Get up and stretch every hour – even if its’ only for 1 minute. It will revitalise your muscles and invigorate you to work better – BUT and there’s always a BUT… You actually have to do the stretching otherwise you THINK about 1 Percent Improvement, but unless you DO IT, you won’t get the result…
Not sure how to stretch? Guess what? We’ve made it easy for you to learn how to stretch safely without pulling any muscles with the Stretching Handbook.
Get your copy now and get started today by learning stretches you can do at work THIS WEEK.
I know this sounds simple because it is.
You know how hard it was to come to the the gym the first time… and the second and third time…
In fact I am sure you’ll agree it took about 3 weeks for you to really feel GOOD about it and then start to LOOK FORWARD to coming in…
That’s called creating a positive habit and even a positive addiction.
It all starts with 1 Percent…
I’d love to hear YOUR 1 PERCENT IMPROVEMENT HEALTH AND FITNESS IDEAS.
Post a comment to this blog post and I’ll share them with everyone!
The Center of Disease Control and Prevention states that most adults just need about 30 minutes of moderate exercise, five times a week to stay healthy. This moderate exercise can include taking a brisk walk, dancing, swimming, cycling, or even walking your dog! What you’ll realize is that packing in 30 minutes of such activity should not be an issue at all.
Did you know that more than half the people who start a fitness regime give it up within less than a year. Almost 3 in every 4 men feel that they should be exercising more than what they do. Almost 100% of men admit that they have at times skipped workouts and opted for some other activity in times of a conflict.
It’s surprising that fitness takes such a backseat in our lives especially since an average adult male can save up to a thousand dollars in medical expenses by being regular with a fitness program.
The issue doesn’t only plague adults. With increasing dependence on computers and technology, outdoor games have become a thing of the past for many kids. Even in high school, only about 1 in 5 students is physically active and for only 20 minutes in a day. Can you believe that?!?!
The thrill of fitting into a dress that you have not been able to wear for years or the great feeling you have when you know that someone is checking you out is something that really can’t be explained.
So guess what? Get yourself to the gym NOW!!!!

If you think you have powerful legs, consider this test of EXPLOSIVE POWER… Every once in a while someone ‘thinks’ of doing something out of the ordinary to prove a point. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS and DON’T PRACTICE actually doing it on the edge of the pool – try to jump to get your feet out of the water in THE MIDDLE OF THE POOL first – if you can’t do that, you’ll never get to this level AND you’ll keep your front teeth!
If you find any interesting videos like this, please pass them along – we’re always looking for fresh content!
A recent study in the Journal of Experimental Biology that over the past 100 years, elite swimmers have grown an average 11.5 cm, more than double the growth of the normal population whereas elite sprinters have shot up 16 cm! Obviously I’ve reversed the cause and effect for dramatic impact… but it’s interesting to note that the 2008 Olympic 100 m Gold Medallist, Usain Bolt at 196 centimetres is a full 18 cm taler than Jesse Owens who competed in the 1936 Olympics and 7.5 cm taller than Carl Lewis who broke the world record in 1987.
The same is true for weights – elite athletes are heavier than ever – muscle development enhanced by rigorous training and other nutritional enhancers.
So where does that leave you? If you thought competition was getting tougher out there – you’re right. You need to get as strong and fit as you can – the trend is toward taller and stronger…
But don’t forget that ENERGY and PASSION can still win you the Gold – that was proven by Gail Devers who won Gold Medals in sprinting in 1992 and 1996…
So there is hope – for those who are committed to developing to their ultimate best!
This is just a fun way to look at performing at your best – change your perspective and have some fun with it!
As a reader of this blog, I know you come to the gym on a regular basis, but even if you come in 2, 3 or even 4 times a week – you can actually REINFORCE your gym workout or class exercise regimen WHEN you are away from the gym. I know you’re going to think these are self-evident ideas and guess what? You’re absolutely right. That’s the beauty of what Dr Marc Dussault calls the 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine.
This one is best illustrated with this photo because I know that if I suggest you take the stairs instead of the escalator, you’d think it sounds like a ridiculous suggestion – well does this hammer home the point?!?!?

Get Fit - Don't Use The Escalator!
That’s it for today, after all the concept is about 1 Percent Improvement… If you take ONE more flight of stairs than you otherwise would have – you’re on your way!
Today’s post is a fun one… I have a saying “we’re either reasons or we’re results”. Every single time you don’t get the result you want, you CREATE all the REASONS in the world… You know you do… WE ALL DO IT! Today’s post is to share with us the FUNNIEST ONES you can come up with…
Let me get you started…
“It’s Tuesday. It’s an ‘odd number’ day. My socks are black and I need white socks to train. My running shoes are in the other room and it’s too hard for me to go and get them. I don’t have running shoes. My gym shirt is in the wash…”
I’ll give the best submission a copy of my book “Secrets Of Marketing Experts Exposed” that sells for $39.95 to $44.95 in bookstores.
Go on, be creative and FUNNY!!!
Welcome to Geelong’s Gym’s Blog!
How cool is it to have a blog dedicated specifically to you?!?
I know I’m excited about being a contributing author – with a focus on “The Mindset Of A Champion” you may or may not know my personal story, but I learnt to play and became a squash addict when I moved to Australia in 2000.
Last year, I competed in the World Masters Squash Championships, placing in the ‘Top 50’ in the world and in February, I won a Silver Medal at the Australian Masters Games right here in Geelong!
You can read more about me by clicking on the hyperlinks – but this blog is all about YOU.
I just wanted to give you a quick overview so you know where I’m coming from as a mature ‘elite’ athlete… I have some biases that you need to be aware of… such as.
I know you can always do better. That doesn’t mean you’re not good, it just means we, and I include myself in this, need to keep stretching as I say “onward and upward!”
That’s what this blog is all about. I will be joined by other authors who will be contributing their expertise, experience, know how and HUMOUR to keep it fun and entertaining.
So why don’t we get to the fun part right off the bat?!?! Take a look at this YouTube video that I posted on one of my blogs a while back. It’s a classic.
You’ll want to bookmark it the next time you’re running a negative pattern that doesn’t support you…
