Think You Have Powerful Legs?

If you think you have powerful legs, consider this test of EXPLOSIVE POWER… Every once in a while someone ‘thinks’ of doing something out of the ordinary to prove a point. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS and DON’T PRACTICE actually doing it on the edge of the pool – try to jump to get your feet out of the water in THE MIDDLE OF THE POOL first – if you can’t do that, you’ll never get to this level AND you’ll keep your front teeth!

If you find any interesting videos like this, please pass them along – we’re always looking for fresh content!

Yoga for the 21st Century

Have you ever thought that Yoga was only for the free-loving, away with the fairies,

incense-burning hippies who wish they were still in the seventies, umming their way through life?

Are you dubious about the health and fitness benefits of Yoga?

I’d like to challenge you to try a Yoga class and I’m positive that you will have changed your mind by the end of it.

How can I be so sure?

Well, Yoga has benefits for both the mind and the body. In fact, the ancient Indian practice combines physical exercise with particular focus on breathing techniques, concentration, relaxation and meditation.

In the class you will move every part of your body, sometimes lying on your back or stomach, and at other times sitting or standing, torso twisting, back arching and inverting.

Not only does this give you a full body workout but you will be able to boast of greater elasticity, flexibility and strength. And that’s not all… many people say Yoga causes them to be calmer, with better posture and concentration levels.

Wow! Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it. How about putting your hesitations aside, and give a Yoga Fit class a try so you can experience the benefits for yourself.  We have a number of different classes at different times during the week – check out our timetable to see which time suits you best.

Become An Elite Athlete And Grow Taller And Stronger?

A recent study in the Journal of Experimental Biology that over the past 100 years, elite swimmers have grown an average 11.5 cm, more than double the growth of the normal population whereas elite sprinters have shot up 16 cm! Obviously I’ve reversed the cause and effect for dramatic impact… but it’s interesting to note that the 2008 Olympic 100 m Gold Medallist, Usain Bolt at 196 centimetres is a full 18 cm taler than Jesse Owens who competed in the 1936 Olympics and 7.5 cm taller than Carl Lewis who broke the world record in 1987.

The same is true for weights – elite athletes are heavier than ever – muscle development enhanced by rigorous training and other nutritional enhancers.

So where does that leave you? If you thought competition was getting tougher out there – you’re right. You need to get as strong and fit as you can – the trend is toward taller and stronger…

But don’t forget that ENERGY and PASSION can still win you the Gold – that was proven by Gail Devers who won Gold Medals in sprinting in 1992 and 1996…

So there is hope – for those who are committed to developing to their ultimate best!

This is just a fun way to look at performing at your best – change your perspective and have some fun with it!

Take Your Gym Workout With You

As a reader of this blog, I know you come to the gym on a regular basis, but even if you come in 2, 3 or even 4 times a week – you can actually REINFORCE your gym workout or class exercise regimen WHEN you are away from the gym. I know you’re going to think these are self-evident ideas and guess what? You’re absolutely right. That’s the beauty of what Dr Marc Dussault calls the 1 Percent Improvement Doctrine.

1 Percent Improvement Tip: Make the Most of Your Commute, TAKE THE STAIRS

This one is best illustrated with this photo because I know that if I suggest you take the stairs instead of the escalator, you’d think it sounds like a ridiculous suggestion – well does this hammer home the point?!?!?

Get Fit - Don't Use The Escalator!

Get Fit - Don't Use The Escalator!

That’s it for today, after all the concept is about 1 Percent Improvement… If you take ONE more flight of stairs than you otherwise would have – you’re on your way!

Outrageously Fun Open Weekend

Well, we had an absolutely fantastic time at our Geelong’s Gym Open Weekend.  The atmosphere was lively, the Instructors pumped and the whole place was buzzing with activity.  And people were getting fit too – let’s not forget that!

img_4139

Some of the key highlights were:

•    Special Introductory ½ Hour Classes – we had heaps of people who tried out some classes that they’d never done before and they loved it.  The special short classes were designed to give you a taste of what the full class is about, without making you feel like you have to be a fitness guru to keep up.  Our regulars enjoyed having some extra classes to choose from too.  And the Instructors had a great time getting to know new people and making the most of the shorter format.  What a great way to warm up quickly over a cold weekend!

•    Personal Trainers on the move – it was awesome to see our personal trainers having the opportunity to mingle with new people and help them try out our equipment, especially the new pieces that have just arrived in the gym.  I bet there were some well worked muscles that were making themselves known on Monday!

•    Special Open Weekend Membership Offer – Wow!  Many of our guests came on down for a look and loved it so much that they decided to take up our extra special Membership Offer, available only for the Open Weekend.  They left with huge smiles on their faces and their wallets still fat.

•    Free goodies – everyone enjoyed the free apples, lollies (extra low fat of course!) and Gatorade.  Just the thing you need after a workout.  And we all appreciated the wonderful girls who were handing out the Gatorade with gorgeous smiles for everyone.  Did you know that one of those girls met TomKat just the night before serving drinks at Geelong’s Gym?

There was plenty more going on all weekend and we have had some awesome feedback about the Open Weekend and how much members and non-members alike enjoyed it.

If you didn’t make it along this time, come along to our next Open Weekend on 3rd and 4th October.  It’s going to be even bigger, better and more exciting, so bring along your friends and family for a weekend of fun and fitness.

But if you can’t wait that long to try us out, why not come on down for a look today?  Our Membership Consultants will be more than happy to give you a tour and set you up with a Free Trial.

God’s Pharmacy

Today’s post has been passed onto us by Dr Marc Dussault, who received this fascinating information from Gavin Buckett, food health and safety extraordinaire from The Gourmet Guardian.

It’s been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish… all before making a human. He made and provided what we’d need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw.  We’re such slow learners…

God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!

Check  out God’s Pharmacy! Amazing!

carrot1A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye… and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

tomato1A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

grapes1Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

walnuts1A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums.  Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

kidney-beans1Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

celery1Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

avocado1Avocados, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this?  It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

figs1Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

sweet-potatoes1Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

olives1Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

oranges1Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

onions1Onions look like the body’s cells. Today’s research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Splendiferous Spinning Benefits

Did you know that indoor cycling on a stationary bike travelling on imaginary terrain set to music is one of the most efficient ways to burn kilojoules, tone the body and develop great fitness?

The cycling craze which swept the world was originally developed as “spinning” by ultra-endurance cyclist Johnny Goldberg (aka Johnny G) in 1986.

Johnny G’s original goal was simple: to help people challenge themselves to be their physical and mental best.  He succeeded; the classes are tough on the body and mind.

But don’t be scared… You don’t have to be super fit to do Spin!

Why not?

Because Spin requires next to no coordination – do I hear a cheer from all of you out there who can’t even manage to walk down the street without tripping on your shoes?

And, the Spin bikes allow you to set your own resistance levels so you can work as easy or as hard as you choose.

So if you’re a beginner, you will be just as at home in a Spin class as an experienced athlete.  How’s that for comforting?

Want to hear some other great benefits about Spin?  Try these on for size:

  • Spin is non-impact, so you can train hard without worrying about injuring yourself.
  • If you currently have an injury (damn that footy game where you pushed yourself a little too hard!!), Spin has proven benefits for knee and other leg injuries – so you can keep fit while recuperating from your injury.
  • Watch your fat just melt away – Spin gets your heart rate soaring and your metabolism climbs with.  But it gets even better… when your heart rate slows after the class, your metabolism still stays up for hours so you continue to burn fat while sitting in front of the TV!!
  • Say goodbye to flabby thighs and hello to fantastic looking, taut and toned legs.  That’s right, Spin combines a resistance workout with cardiovascular training, so you can’t help but get toned!

If you take just 45 minutes out of your day and try a Spin class, you can experience the benefits for yourself.

So what are you waiting for? Get to a Spin class and start riding to music now.
