Fantabulous Fun Facts About Your Body!

Today’s post was sent to me by Dr Marc Dussault, via one of his clients, an accomplished equestrian, Caylene Vincent.  I think you’ll get a good laugh out of this one…

It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.

One human hair can support 3 kg (6.6 lb).

The average man’s penis is three times the length of his thumb.

Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.

A woman’s heart beats faster than a man’s.

There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet.

Women blink twice as often as men.

The average person’s skin weighs twice as much as the brain.

Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.

If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it.

Women reading this will be finished now.

Men are still busy checking their thumbs.

Geelong’s Gym Supports “Walking Home” Event

Did you know that on any given night 100, 000 Australians are homeless?

Do you know how lucky you are to have a warm house to go home to over the winter period?

I am proud to announce that Geelong’s Gym is one of the sponsors of the Walking Home Event, a walk from Warrnambool to Geelong to raise awareness and understanding of homelessness issues in our region.

This is such an exciting initiative and we are thrilled to be involved.  The event will be taking place in November over a five day period and there’s lots to be done in the meantime.

Like what, you might ask.  It’s just walking, right?

Well, yes.  Except the participants are going to be clocking up a total of 189 kilometres over the five days!  I’m sure you’ll agree that’s quite a distance and requires a whole lot of physical and mental preparation.  And that’s where we come in, naturally.

Ann Cramp, one of the trainers at Geelong’s Gym, has already started training the participants with a tailor-made program that will elevate their walking fitness and stamina levels while ensuring that injuries are prevented.  They even have their own special Spin class once a fortnight, to add some variety to their training regime and the Spin Instructors who take those classes are contributing their time in support of the event.

You might wonder why I’m telling you about this.  I believe it’s important to support the community events and initiatives in our area, particularly when they’re for such a good cause.  Geelong’s Gym has been involved in the Geelong community for 45 years and we’re proud to be such a significant contributor.

So, when you see some of the participants training in the gym, why not take a couple of seconds to encourage them as they work towards the Walking Home Event.  I’m sure your support will be greatly appreciated.

Strong Project Makes Flying Start

Have you heard about the Strong Project yet?

Ann Cramp, one of the trainers on the Strong Project, has been doing a fantastic job of keeping us updated with what’s happening in the project and I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve observed and some of the feedback I’ve had.

To date the Strong Project has been a phenomenal success!  Our Type II Diabetes candidates have taken huge strides in their health, fitness and general well-being.  And it’s great to see the big smiles on their faces when they arrive at the gym.  And guess what?  They’re still smiling at the end of their workouts and telling their friends what a difference it’s making in their lives!

Many of them have reported that they feel stronger, more stable, more flexible and their quality of life has improved drastically.  And, on top of that, they are feeling fitter than they have felt for a long time.

Wouldn’t you like to feel that way too?
Wouldn’t you like to feel fit, strong and energized every day – even on the days that you’re not exercising?

Well, you can.  Health and fitness is essential to a long and happy life.  But the good news is, it’s not difficult to achieve.

Just ask any one of the Strong participants and I’m sure they will tell you that they wish they’d started on this journey years ago!

So stop procrastinating.  It doesn’t matter what shape your body is in; it doesn’t matter that you haven’t exercised for years; it doesn’t matter that you have been battling a condition like Type II Diabetes

You can start making some positive changes to your lifestyle, general health, fitness and strength TODAY!

So what’s stopping you?

Bold New Sign Makes Its Debut

That’s right, folks.  There are new things going down in the Health and Fitness world, or more specifically in Geelong.

Re-Creation Health Club Geelong has made its exodus and Geelong’s Gym has officially taken its place as the original Geelong gym, serving the Geelong community for 45 years.  That’s why we decided to change its name, because how could we call it anything other than Geelong’s Gym?!

We’re really excited about the change.  Check out this great video taken of the final stages of the sign going up.

But, the sign going up is only the first of many changes to this fabulous health and fitness Mecca.  There are heaps more exciting things to come – new state of the art equipment, new flat screen TVs, new change rooms and some additional surprises.

Some of the Geelong's Gym team celebrate the new sign going up.
